Shot just off Berkley Square, in Mayfair, central London for my ‘Fag Ends’ project. I was cycling round town with my camera, looking for people who had been forced to smoke outside since the smoking ban came into force. I loved the look of these two characters, so I stopped off to take a few shots. Unfortunately they were just taking the last puffs of their respective cigarettes, and amazingly weren’t up for sparking up another straight away. I returned after half an hour to catch this moment. Project Work

I love doing little photo stories like this each year. It’s good to take a break from being an advertising photographer and shoot these informal portrait photographs. It also gives me an opportunity to try out new ideas and lighting techniques.
